BRC Global Standards has published an Environmental Awareness Module that supplements the BRC Standard for Packaging and Packaging Materials. The module has been developed to provide a framework to enable companies to improve their environmental awareness and performance.
The use of this new module is entirely optional and is primarily intended for companies that do not currently have an environmental management system in place. The EAM can be obtained by any BRC certificated Packaging site, or any site planning a Packaging certification audit in the near future and can be downloaded from the BRC website here.
Benefits of the Environmental Awareness Module
The EAM demonstrates your commitment to the environment and ensures your customers have confidence in your site’s environmental performance, including energy use and waste reduction, and supply chain management.
For the first certification against the environmental awareness module, you can either have a separate audit for the EAM or combine it with a recertification audit. From the second year onwards, the EAM audit will need to be combined with the packaging certification audit. Combining the audits will save you time and costs. On its own, the audit for the module will take around 8 hours. If it’s combined, you can expect an extra half-day to be added to your audit.
DQS is an accredited certification body for the BRC Global Standards and has a large pool of highly qualified auditors to choose from.
