In November 2019, we attended the BRCGS Delivery Partners Conference in London. This annual conference is reserved for approved certification bodies and is used to provide an update on the latest developments. In this article, we will share some of the main points discussed during the conference.
BRCGS Food 8 – Food Safety Culture
From February 2020 onwards, certified sites will have their second audit to Issue 8 of the BRCGS Food standard. During this audit, you will be required to demonstrate that you have verified the effectiveness of your food safety culture actions.
The implementation of a so called Food Safety Culture is a requirement of the BRCGS Food 8 standard. According to clause 1.1.2, certified sites are required to introduce and implement a plan for development and continuous improvement of their food safety culture. During their first audit to Issue 8 of the standard, sites were expected to have developed the plan of action to improve food safety and quality culture. During their second audit, however, they will also need to demonstrate that they have reviewed the effectiveness of completed activities.
It must be emphasised here that auditors are not expected to be auditing the food safety culture of the site, which is to a large extent subjective, but rather the evidence of compliance with the requirements of the clause as explained above.
BRCGS Plant Based
On January 1, 2020 the BRCGS Plant Based Standard will be published, audits are feasible from February 1. You can find all the important information about the standard here.
BRCGS Packaging 6
On February 1, 2020 BRCGS Packaging 6 will come into force. Audits against version 5 will not be possible from this time onwards. Our summary of the main changes to come is available here.
